In-Depth Material Profiles
Technical characteristics and design rules for each printing substrate.
PLA+ (Polylactic Acid)
Top Choice for DetailsPLA+ is derived from renewable organic starches (corn starch/sugarcane). It exhibits virtually zero thermal shrinkage during printing, ensuring the crispest edge details, sharpest text engraving, and most accurate tolerances down to ±0.1mm.
- • Pros: Crisp finish, high tensile stiffness, vibrant color range, low cost.
- • Limitations: Softens above 55°C, brittle under sudden severe shock loads.
Tough PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)
Best All-RounderPETG combines the ease of PLA with the functional durability of ABS. It offers outstanding layer fusion, making parts waterproof and shatterproof under mechanical torsion, impacts, and prolonged outdoor UV exposure.
- • Pros: High ductility, heat resistant to 75°C, chemical & water resistant.
- • Limitations: Slightly more flexible than PLA+ under pure tension.
High-Temp ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
Thermal & Impact DutyThe standard polymer used in Lego bricks and automotive interiors. ABS maintains structural integrity up to 95°C and can be post-processed via acetone vapor smoothing for a glassy injection-molded surface finish.
- • Pros: Heat resistant up to 95°C, high impact absorption, post-processable.
- • Limitations: Requires enclosed high-temp print chambers to prevent warping.
Flexible TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane 95A)
Rubber-Like ElasticTPU is an elastomeric thermoplastic capable of bending and returning to its original geometry without permanent deformation. Highly resistant to abrasion, oils, grease, and cyclic fatigue.
- • Pros: Flexible, tear-resistant, excellent vibration & acoustic dampening.
- • Limitations: Cannot be used for rigid structural bearing plates.
